MP-1 Video Card Enhancement
THIS PRODUCT IS DISCONTINUED AND IS SOLD UNDER THE
NEW MP-1.4 VERSION ONLY. For more information on the newer MP-1.4, see
here.
The MP-1 mod is a high bandwidth RGB true 75 ohm line driver and filter
circuit. It has a dual output that will allow two different output voltages. The
voltage level for each of the three driver stages can be selected by using three
mini jumpers that are attached on the mod circuit. Removing the jumpers will put
the mod in the unity gain state (0.7Vp-p in - 0.7Vp-p out). With the jumpers on,
the output level should be 0.76 to 0.79 Vp-p output, with a 0.7 Vp-p input.
The circuits filtering will produce cleaner, tighter video. The MP-1 also
improves and clarifies shadow detail, providing an improvement in image quality
and improved color rendering. These dramatic results are accomplished with a
very unique active filtering process, supported by a mini isolated switching
power supply. In order to truly reap all the benefits, the MP-1 must have
complimentary true 75 ohm, high quality high bandwidth cables and associated
switchers (if used).
The MP-1 is designed to work with ATI’s 7500, 8500, 9000, 9500 and 9700 video
cards. The mod works on any variation of these cards, and may be removed and
re-attached to any other listed card should you decide to upgrade.
The MP-1 is not available as a DIY item.

Frequently Asked Questions: Q: For those of us
with projectors that lack BNC inputs (I have an XGA DLP with a standard
VGA/HD-15 input), how do we proceed with the Clarity Series MP-1 mod?
A: The Clarity Series MP-1 can be attached to a video card using the HD15
connector (VGA). I would recommend the HD15 connector if the VGA connector on
the projector is also HD15.
Q: Can the Clarity Series MP-1 be used with digital projectors?
A: Yes. The MP-1 has been tested with digital projectors, and has performed
very well. Match the output connection to the highest quality connection
available on your projector (DB15 to DB-15 or RGBHV to RGBHV).
Q: Can the Clarity Series MP-1 be used with CRT projectors?
A: Yes. The MP-1 performs very well with CRT projectors, many CRT projectors
benefit from the jumper selectable signal boost. All CRT projectors benefit from
the improved clarity of shadow detail and low noise blacks.
Q: How long can my cables be?
A: The Clarity Series MP-1 has been tested to work well with cable lengths up
to 30'.
Q: What video cards can be modified?
A: We currently modify the ATI Radeon series, 7500, 8500, 9000, 9500, 9700,
9700 Pro, 9600, and 9800 plus the Matrox Parhelia.
Reviews and Testimonials:
"Now that I have your [MP-1] card in place, I simply can't
imagine DVDs looking any better than this. I'll be watching 'Spiderman' tonight
and I can't wait!"

"I have been doing as much testing as I can before replying back to you. I
can say without doubt that this [MP-1] is superior to any other solution that I
have seen thus far. It produces the same sharpness as the Extron without the
Noise , better depth than the Extron and better color than the Extron. There is
no comparison at all to a stock Radeon. I just wanted you to know that I find
the modded card to be every bit as impressive as everyone else that is lucky
enough to have it."

"I had a very eventful trip to Arizona recently. I visited with Tim Martin
of e-Tech. Mike Parker flew in as well. At one point we were using Tim's HTPC to
play some DVD material. We switched to a PC that Mike had shipped in, complete
with his mod. The difference was *night and day*. This opportunity to a/b the
mod was a great opportunity.
The fact is that three dimensionality is helped with accurate, deep blacks
as well as subtle shades of gray. These subtleties define depth. The MP mod
really lets more degrees of black / gray become evident. There's a richness that
comes through. I was thoroughly impressed.
A Mike Parker [MP-1] card is not a tweak; it is a serious equipment upgrade. It
should be standard in every serious HTPC."

"I received the [MP-1] card today and hook it and the new cables up and booted up my
pc and pop-in Gladiator and started TheaterTek. I can only describe this with
one word, 'WOW!' For the first time 'Gladiator' looked great with excellent
blacks, contrast and shadow detail. These were issues I had before the mod.
Every time I tried getting enough light within this movie and other dark scene
movies, I would then have to re-adjust for lighter scene movies and the darker
scene movies would still never look right.
This mod is the best upgrade I have done to my HTPC to date. It seems with
everything else I have upgraded on my PC in the past I have had problems getting
them to work correctly (note, TheaterTek). However with this mod it was instant
workability and a BIG SMILE."

"I hooked up the HTPC to my Marantz VPS1 1280x720 DLP projector using a 5 BNC
to VGA cable. I am already using a Panasonic RP-91 feeding the projector 480i
through component so the DVD player I have is very good and the Marantz DLP has
Faroudja processing. I had 2 copies of the same DVD to try on both and flip back
and forth between the two but of course I had to change the contrast and
brightness just a bit where they were both calibrated correctly. The first thing
I noticed with HTPC running the latest version of TheaterTek with the ffdshow
filter was that the fine details in the background were more distinguishable.
Also I thought my DLP projector with the Panasonic RP-91 DVD player was very
sharp anyway but the HTPC seemed to take it to another level. I watched a DVD I
have demoed many times and I saw something I hadn't seen before;. during one
scene there was this depth of field that came into focus that I had never seen
before and there was a cool 3-D like image. The colors were better too but that
has always been the case with my HTPC vs. standalone DVD player. So, I didn't
think it would be that big of a difference on my DLP projector but it is. I
can't wait to see what kind of picture I can produce now with my NEC 9PG Extra.
I would definitely recommend the MP-1 for people with a DLP projector."
